Its undergraduate and graduate education programs in Pediatrics are nationally recognized for excellence and innovation. The Department seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Education Research & Scholarship to play an integral role in the educational mission of the Department. The Director of Education Research & Scholarship will direct the Center for Education, Research, and Scholarship (CERS) and serve as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics with specific responsibility for leading the growth and productivity of the Department’s health professions education research. In addition to pursuing their own research program, the successful candidate will be expected to serve as a key resource for pediatric faculty, residents, and fellows with an interest in educational scholarship and to devote substantial time to their mentorship and training. The Director will collaborate with other education leaders in the Department to promote innovation and best practices in curriculum development and assessment of learning and to develop educational programs designed to equip faculty, residents, and students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective teachers and reflective life-long learners. Additional duties of this position include grant writing, program evaluation, and faculty development. The candidate should have well-developed relationship-building skills, analytical and critical thinking skills, and strong written and oral communication skills. The appointee will have the opportunity to recruit (and train, as required) a research professional to support overall development and implementation of the education research program. If in alignment with the education and research priorities of the new Director, the opportunity to recruit an Instructional Design Specialist may also be available. Professional Field Health Professions Education Research Supervision Received Thomas Parker, Interim Vice Chair, Medical Education, Department of Pediatrics Supervision Exercised Research Professional, Medical Education Examples of Work Performed The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: - Work collaboratively with Vice-Chair for Education and other senior education leaders to identify and address educational priorities for the Department.
- Develop strategies to enhance communication and collaboration around medical education research and create an environment that values the efforts of educational scholarship.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Pediatric faculty and trainees interested in medical education research and scholarship.
- Administer Department of Pediatrics education seed grant program.
- Participate in recurring conferences with Medical Education-focused faculty and trainees to discuss Medical Education scholarship.
- Collaborate with education leaders to create and maintain research programs that support learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Help to create and lead seminars on educational topics (assessment, feedback, remediation, teaching, etc.) for Pediatric faculty.
- Engage and collaborate with education scholars from other departments across the School of Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications Associate Professor: - Advanced degree (Master of Education or similar) with focus on health science education or related field involving training and assessment expertise.
- Eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.
- Five (5) years of experience working in academic health science education
- Track record of collaborative health science research resulting in consistent record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications on topics pertinent to medical education.
- History of successfully mentoring trainees and junior faculty in scholarly projects related to health science education research.
- Experience designing and conducting effective presentations and workshops on medical education topics.
Professor: - Advanced degree (Master of Education or similar) with focus on health science education or related field involving training and assessment expertise.
- Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor.
- Six (6) or more years of experience working in academic health science education.
- Track record of collaborative health science research resulting in consistent record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications on topics pertinent to medical education.
- History of successfully mentoring trainees and junior faculty in scholarly projects related to health science education research.
- Experience designing and conducting effective presentations and workshops on medical education topics.
Conditions of Employment: - Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

- Knowledge of principles of assessment and feedback and current practices in medical education.

- Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications - PhD specializing in medical education or related field (i.e., cognitive psychology, sociology, etc.) involving training and assessment expertise.
- Institutional leadership experience in medical education.
- Extensive experience and expertise in study design, data management, research methodologies, and grant writing.
- Demonstrated contributions to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and research programs.
- National reputation in medical education, as evidenced by:
- Service in national organizations.
- Speaking invitations to academic centers or regional/national meetings on medical education topics.
- History of successful intramural and extramural grant applications on education-related topics.
Salary Range The salary range for this position has been established at: - Associate Professor: $145,000 to $160,000
- Professor: $190,000 to $210,000
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
