The Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applicants for a Bridge to the Faculty" position. The position involves an initial two-year appointment as research associate, and a successful postdoctoral associate with department approval will have the opportunity to transition to tenure-track faculty status in the 2023-2024 academic year. The expected start date as research associate is August 16, 2021. The successful candidate must have completed the Ph.D. or Ed.D. within the past five years, no earlier than August 1, 2016 and no later than August 1, 2021.
The Bridge to the Faculty program is an initiative to diversify the faculty by attracting and retaining promising individuals from groups that have been historically underrepresented in health professions education. In addition to mentorship within the Department of Medical Education, the research associate will participate in a cohort-based mentoring experience through the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity, where they will have the opportunity to meet other Bridge to the Faculty Scholars.
We seek to recruit a research associate seeking a career in health professions education, whose area of specialization engages the core instruction domains in DME's graduate programs (health professions education scholarship, instruction and assessment, curriculum design and evaluation, and educational leadership). A variety of disciplinary backgrounds prepare candidates for this kind of work, including but not limited to educational psychology, cognitive psychology, sociology, teacher education, anthropology, and related fields. The capacity to connect these fields to matters of race and ethnicity in the health professions is valued. Direct experience in medical education or other health professions education is desirable but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS. A Ph.D. or D.Ed. is required and must be in hand by August 1, 2021.
